Chris Hoy is the Owner and head Instructor of Hoy’s Martial Arts Academy which was established in 1999. He started training in martial arts in 1986 and has received advanced teaching degrees and black belts in various styles including Bruce Lee’s Martial art of Jeet Kune Do, 3 different systems of Filipino Kali, and Indonesian Silat
Some of his accomplishments include:
- He has trained over the last 25 years with almost every one of the original student of the late Bruce lee
- Black Sash in Filipino Kali 1996 Marcial Tirada style
- Teaching Degree in Largo Mano Style of Kali
- Advanced Instructor Degrees in Jeet Kune Do – Filipino Kali – Indonesian Silat – Thai Boxing M.I. Methods
In 1999 he opened the first U.S. Branch of the World Renowned Magda Institute. Located originally in the Historic Old Brooklyn area until 2005, and then relocating to a new facility in North Royalton until 2010 when we outgrew the space. In 2010 we moved to our current location in Broadview Heights..
He continues his training today focusing heavily on Gracie Jiu Jitsu. In June of 2011 he put the beloved white belt back on to immerse himself in the study of Gracie Jiu jitsu. Earning his current rank of blue belt in 2013. Mr. Hoy is under the direct guidance and tutelage of Gracie Jiu Jitsu black belt Scott Burr, whom he trains with privately every week.
In addition to the martial arts school Mr Hoy worked in the NFL for 7 seasons as a specialized strength and conditioning coach teaching the various skills of Kali and JKD to professional Football players.
Today Mr Hoy’s focus is being able to teach and develop self-defense skills to children and adults, providing them with the tools to prepare them for an unsafe world. He also has developed a bully prevention program that is now offered as part of the Phys Ed curriculum at St Columbkille Grade School.
