At Hoy’s Martial Arts Academy we offer two different martial arts classes, as well as two fitness classes, to suit your needs (although many of our students enjoy training in multiple programs).

Martial Arts

Both of our martial arts programs are not only highly effective combat arts that focus on self-defense, but they are also great ways to relieve stress, get in amazing shape, and get on track with a healthy lifestyle that will make you look and feel better than ever!

Gracie/Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu

Our first class is Gracie/Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. It is a combat sport and self-defense system that focuses on grappling and ground fighting. Gracie Jiu-Jitsu teaches that a smaller, weaker person can successfully defend themselves and defeat a bigger, stronger opponent with the proper use of leverage and technique – most notably by the application and proper use of joint locks and chokes to render the opponent helpless.

Traditional Martial Arts

Our second class is a blend of three martial arts, namely, JKD (Jeet Kune Do), Filipino Kali, and Indonesian/Malaysian Silat. These arts emphasize weapon-based fighting with sticks, knives, bladed weapons, and various improvised weapons, as well as "open hand" techniques (without weapons). These disciplines have been offered by Cleveland Self Defense since the inception of the school in 1999.

Fitness

Our Fitness Program is designed for the busy adult. Classes are designed to give you the best workout in the shortest time, and are held several days and times per week, allowing them to fit into the busiest person's schedule. And you won't be disappointed with the results!

Strength and Conditioning

Our newest class is our whole-body “boot camp,” held once a week every Saturday. This class is all your body needs to get stronger and avoid injuries. Let us train you once a week in a program that will not only help you meet your fitness goals but will help you do it well into the seasoned years of your life. After all - avoiding both injury and overtraining should be the cornerstone of your training philosophy - just like it is the cornerstone of ours at Hoy’s Martial Arts Academy.

Fitness Kickboxing

Our second fitness offering is Fitness Kickboxing. Meeting several times a week, this class is a great cardio workout, and a fabulous stress reliever. It helps develop your core, improving your posture and increasing your balance, while providing a varied workout with energizing music and great camaraderie. Weekday classes are held twice a week in the afternoon, plus we have a morning class on Saturdays, to get you energized and start your weekend off right!

You may be asking yourself, “which one is best for me?” Well that is something you will probably have to discover for yourself, so we offer free introductory classes for just that purpose! Give us a call at 216-965-5425, or check out our class schedule and stop on by!

Great spot for both adult & kids classes! My son takes kids classes and loves going, he’s picked up self defense instruction, Brazilian jiu jitsu, and basic striking. Kids classes are very safe and efficiently run. I take the adult Brazilian jiu jitsu classes and enjoy the laid back and informative atmosphere. The instructors are great guys who are always willing to answer questions and offer advice on technique.

Hoys martial arts is the best place for adults and kids to train martial arts in the area. They offer training in Filipino Kali, Indonesian Silat, Bruce Lee’s Jeet Kune Do, and they also have an outstanding BJJ program.. the kids programs are outstanding, and there is a path of progression for them to attain the skills necessary to attend the adult classes. Everyone knows the benefits of training martial arts.. the key difference is WHERE you train, and HOW you train. Sifu Chris Hoy is an outstanding teacher, and an even better man. I give Hoy’s my highest recommendation, and won’t train anywhere else.
